Edinburgh has a wealth of entertainment
available, with live theatre, and a massive selection
of cinemas, bars and restaurants, featuring live entertainment.
Edinburgh, being a university town, offers a large range
of clubs and entertainment slanted towards the large
youth market. Edinburgh has new clubs and nightclubs
opening all the time, the latest being the luxurious
City Nightclub in Edinburgh's Market Street. One of
the newer arrivals on the Edinburgh entertainment scene
is the Omniplex at Greenside Edinburgh, only a few minutes
from the east end of Princes Street, Edinburgh. A welcome
arrival for local Edinburgh people, and visitors alike
to Edinburgh, is the new Warner Village Cinema. This
is a 12 plex cinema entertainment complex featuring
a Warner Gold Section. The Edinburgh Warner Village
Gold features a bar and the facility of ordering drinks
and snacks to be delivered to your cinema seat. The
Edinburgh Warner Village is the first large cinema in
the true Edinburgh city centre. Film buffs will be pleased
to know that at the south west side of Edinburgh, in
the Morningside area, we have a unique cinema complex.
This is The Edinburgh Dominion Cinema, a family owned
cinema with an original Art Deco frontage - there is
even a restaurant and a bar in this unique Edinburgh
cinema. Edinburgh also has the Edinburgh Filmhouse Cinema
in Lothian Road, which is in the west end of Edinburgh,
providing excellent cinema entertainment and showing
the latest, and in the case of the Filmhouse Cinema
"art house" and specialist films for the connoisseur.
Edinburgh's Cameo Cinema is also worth checking out
for films which you may not find on general release.
Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre (once the
largest cinema in Britain), situated at the east end
of The City of Edinburgh, is the largest theatre in
Britain, entertaining 3000 people. The Edinburgh Playhouse
entertainment specialty is large musicals, such as typically
Miss Saigon and musicals by the likes of Andrew Lloyd
Webber. Edinburgh is lucky to have a late Victorian
masterpiece of a theatre in the Edinburgh Kings Theatre
in the Tollcross area of the city, providing popular
entertainment for theatre fans. Entering this theatre
is like going back in time, to a period when all theatres
had ornamentation of a manner which transported the
patrons into a luxury world - even if it was for only
one night's entertainment!
We welcome to Edinburgh Castle entertainment section
the Edinburgh Party Bus and Katie Targett Adams, the
Edinburgh based harpist, the City Nightclub, and Sportsters
Bar, three good additions to the Edinburgh Entertainment
section, and make sure to check out the newly revamped
Edinburgh Pubs website.
Jools Holland’s Jam House comes to Edinburgh!
Edinburgh Jam House news Fri.
18th. November -
Jools Holland will not be in attendance at the opening
of The Jam House Edinburgh as he will be appearing
with his Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra on
Friday 18th. November in Cheltenham at The Centaur
Cheltenham Racecourse and on Saturday 19th November
Jools and the Orchestra will be in Portsmouth at
The Guildhall.
Jools Holland’s vision of the best in live music, great food and good times will be a reality in Edinburgh as of Friday 18 th November 2005, as Jools and Luminar Leisure open The Jam House - a unique new entertainment venue in Scotland.
Based inside the 24,000sq ft former BBC Broadcasting House on Queen Street, the
Jam House is a music club based on a similar American concept called House
of Blues which can be found in LA and Chicago. The Jam House will have an 84
seat fine dining restaurant, bars, and most importantly, be fully equipped
as a live venue, attracting local bands and celebrity guest stars alike.
The Jam House concept began in 1999 as an amalgamation between Jools Holland and designer Neil Tibbatt.
Jools and Neil wanted to produce a night out which had elements of live music, fine dining and good times, encompassing a style of music club.
Jools Holland takes the prestigious title of musical director of the Jam House and Jools involvement ensures credibility and the very best live musical experience. Jools and his Rhythm ‘n’ Blues Orchestra will also play at the Jam House.
Jools said: 'I have always enjoyed the ambiance of the Jam House in Birmingham.
When we play there it's a perfect place to swing the blues. Edinburgh is one
of my favourite places in the world and I hope we can bring the same atmosphere
to the Jam House there.'
Stephen Thomas , CEO of Luminar Leisure said: 'The Jam House is unique concept in Scotland and we are excited to be bringing it to Edinburgh - a city in which we believe it will flourish. The search is on for the cream of Scottish musical talent to play at the Jam House. Who knows - we may even find the Scottish Jools Holland.'
The Jam House has an intimate atmosphere for a live music venue favouring the ‘unplugged’ feel with more contact between artists and members of the public. There are no futuristic, technological lighting effects, just simple theatrical style focused on the artist and providing a live entertainment experience.
The theatrical element of the venue is enhanced by the fact that Neil Tibbatt has been able to use the small theatre inside the former BBC Broadcasting House which was once where performances were broadcast and recorded.
Former smaller recording studios have been opened up and will become bars and
lounge areas, further using the space to fully encourage customers to appreciate
the historical musicality of the venue. An a la carte dining experience allows
customers to enjoy a blend of flavours from around the world and an inspired
wine list enhances the choice and quality.
Neil Tibbatt says: 'Essentially the design concept is based on the philosophy behind the music and into the roots of blues and jazz and uses a lot of references to the symbolism surrounding these styles such as voodoo candles, wooden artefacts and eerie and quirky sculptures and artwork to create the atmosphere.'
Edinburgh artist David Begby is the designer of the Jam House logo, the angel motif, which can also be seen inside the venue in the angel sculpture, maintaining the theme.
The first Jam House venue, in Birmingham’s St Paul’s Square, was
built inside a three storey Georgian building in the heart of the jewellery quarter,
opposite St Paul ’s Church.
The Jam House has since hosted jazz, blues and rock artists and has featured performances from Chaka Khan, The Stylistics, The Specials, The Beat, Steve Gibbons, Buddy Greco, Pato Banton, Paul Carrack and of course, Jools Holland and his Rhythm ‘n’ Blues orchestra. Celebrity guests at the Jam House have included ex Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, Ocean Colour Scene, Noddy Holder who was the gravely voice frontman of Slade, the comedian Jasper Carrot and many others.

Wednesday 14th. Dec. 05 -The new King Kong movie
opens nationwide tomorrow night and King Kong is one of the
few movies I have really wanted to see for a long time. The critics who have
seen King Kong have given the movie good reviews and I have
just finished previewing the King Kong trailer on the Internet.
Visually Naomi Watts would appear to be a good choice as she bears a striking
resemblance to Fay Wray who starred in the original 1993 King Kong film.
Peter Jackson is the same director who made the successful Lord of the Rings
films and he used New Zealand to film King Kong, as he did
with the Lord of the Rings movies. After looking at the trailer for King
Kong I think Jackson made an excellent choice. Peter Jackson's remake
of the original 1933 King Kong film i will shoot 37-year-old
Naomi Watts to the top of fame's skyscraper.
Fay Wray was Ann Darrow -the original damsel in distress in the first King Kong film died last year at the age of 96.
The Bank of Scotland FIreworks Concert 2005 with music provided by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra playing Beethoven Symphony No 7 will start at 9p.m in Princes Street Gardens and the Fireworks concert has a running time of approx 45mins.

Porter's masterpiece opened on Monday night at the.Edinburgh

that features some of Cole Porter's most famous songs
immortalised by Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby in
the 1956 film High Society which also starred Grace
Kelly. The famous Cole Porter High Society songs
include” Who Wants to Be a
Millionaire?”.” True
Love” and "Well, Did You Evah” High

your High Society tickets from the Playhouse Theatre

Thursday 9th. June - I
enjoyed High Society last night and I recommend that
you get along to the Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre and
enjoy a lighthearted musical evening with lot's of
classic songs that you will know well. Liza Goddard
is High Society's big name, and Liza is cast as the
mother of the bride, Katherine Kingsley is Tracy Lord
- the lead role, and she is excellent. Katherine handles
the slower ballads exceptionally well, and she can
camp it up with the best of them as she proves in the
show's big number Let's Misbehave. Ria Jones deserves
mention as her singing voice is sensational and 27
year old black dancer Nina Kristofferson is notable
as one of the servants-you
probably will
leave the show humming.” Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” it's
that catchy!
