We want you the visitor, to have the best visitor experience possible, and we will be happy for you to contact us by phone, or by e-mail, if you have any questions on Edinburgh Castle,or Edinburgh and the surrounding area.
Scotland and New Year are synonymous with New Year celebrations - after all we gave the world Hogmanay and now we feature on the world stage as the number 1 New Year destination for party revellers. Edinburgh is justly famous for its’ annual New Year celebrations featuring the largest Street New Year Party in the world. The Edinburgh Tourist Information Centre is inundated by requests daily in the later half of the year, for information on the various festivities and events that will be taking place throughout the city. Originally, Edinburgh inhabitants and tourists alike, brought in the New Year by gathering in the Old Town on Hogmanay outside the historic Tron Kirk. As the bells tolled midnight and the old year drew to a close, the
revellers
would toast each other traditionally with Scottish Whisky and there would be kissing, handshaking and much merriment! Nothing has changed –only the location of the Hogmanay celebrations.
For the last few years Princes Street has become the location
for the New Year Street Party, known as Edinburgh Hogmanay,
and this gives more opportunity than ever to provide
entertainment on the street than would ever have been possible
outside the Tron Church on the High Street which was the
traditional meeting place for revelers at New Year.
Edinburgh Castle is every schoolboy's dream of what a castle should look like...
