The world premiere of
the film The Adventures Of Greyfriars Bobby took
place in the Vue Cinema, The Omni Centre in Edinburgh.
In attendance at the Greyfriars Bobby film screening
were Christopher Lee and Scots actors James Cosmo
and Kirsty Mitchell, Ardal O'Hanlon and canine star
Bobby also attended the sell-out premiere. A party
for the guests at Edinburgh Castle followed the
film event which was in aid of Barnardo's and the
Dogs Trust .Edinburgh Castle features in the film,
The Adventures Of Greyfriars Bobby which tells the
story of loyal West Highland Terrier Bobby who stood
by the grave of his late master in Greyfriars churchyard.
Director John Henderson and producer Christopher
Figg said they were determined to tell the "true
story" of
Bobby and rejected the version portrayed in the 1961
Walt Disney Greyfriars Bobby film. Edinburgh Castle
played an important part in a number of scenes, and
in the portrayal of how the One o'Clock Gun acted
as the signal for Bobby to leave his master's grave
for his lunchtime meals The use of historic locations
such as those used in Edinburgh Castle definitely
adds to the overall character and integrity of the
Greyfriars Bobby film The film tells how loyal pet
Bobby is entrusted to Ewan, a shy young man, after
the death of his master John Gray. Despite their
friendship, Bobby refuses to leave his late master's
side, sleeping on his grave in Greyfriars churchyard
night after night.Ewan, played by Oliver Golding,
is forced to act when a new dog licensing act puts
Bobby's life in danger. A statue of Bobby was erected
in memory of the dog outside Greyfriars churchyard.
The Adventures Of Greyfriars Bobby film was released
nationwide on Friday 10th February 2006.

Edinburgh Castle News: Extra attractions at Edinburgh Castle open for Edinburgh weddings
A historic chapel on the top of Edinburgh Castle, which until now has hosted only the weddings of members of the armed forces, has been opened up to all couples who want to marry.
Edinburgh Castle expects a rush of bookings for the unique opportunity to be married at St Margaret's Chapel, reputed to be the oldest building in Edinburgh. The 12th-century structure, which will only be used for religious services, holds 25 and was the only building spared by Robert the Bruce when he took over the Castle.
The news comes as renovation work on the Queen Anne building, an 18th-century former barracks at the heart of the castle, is completed and this will also be offered as a wedding venue.
Edinburgh Castle as a wedding venue allows couples to use Scotland's most famous landmark. Private evening tours of the castle, including a viewing of the Crown Jewels, can be also be arranged for guests attending the wedding.

Edinburgh Castle , which will be transformed for a weekend into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, for the launch of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. JK Rowling herself will appear - as if by magic - from a secret panel in Edinburgh Castle ’s Great Hall at the stroke of midnight . Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at the Castle is great for tourism and we are sure that most children and adult Harry Potter fans alike, would like a look inside Hogwarts School at Edinburgh Castle after the transformation.
Tuesday 17th.May 2005
Bloomsbury 's Publicity Director Katie Bond said "The reading will form that 'magic midnight moment'," and” It will be filmed and widely syndicated after the event. The whole weekend is also being filmed for a later TV programme. We think Edinburgh Castle is the perfect venue. It dominates the city on the hill, and with its spiral cobbled street leading up to it, and the suits of armour and stained glass windows in its Great Hall, it really is like Hogwarts. Edinburgh is also a fitting location because all the Harry Potter books were written there, in large part."

The Financial Times Harry Potter Competition Win the chance to meet
JK
Rowling at Edinburgh Castle
Published: May 20 2005 17:35 | Last updated: May 20 2005 17:35 The FT launches a competition aimed at every child who is potty about Harry Potter. The prize? A once-in-a-lifetime chance to review JK Rowling’s latest blockbuster, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, for the FT and to question her at a news conference. The winning child - who must be aged between 8 and 16 - and a parent or guardian will travel to Edinburgh on Friday, July 15, arriving in the grounds of Edinburgh Castle in a horse-drawn carriage. Along with around 70 other youngsters, the FT’s representative will be taken to the Edinburgh Castle Great Hall - a dead ringer for the one at Hogwarts School - where on the stroke of midnight , as the new book is officially published, JK Rowling will read extracts and hand each child a signed copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince . On Saturday evening the winners will gather for a banquet at the Castle while the accompanying adults are entertained elsewhere. At 11a m on Sunday the children will be able to put the questions they have devised to Rowling before filing their stories. So how to unlock the magic? Each Saturday for three weeks, starting today, we will publish questions to which only the truly Hogwarts-savvy will know the answers. In the final week, we will provide an application form, asking entrants to give answers to all three questions, and to submit a 400 word review of their favourite Harry Potter book. The closing date for entries is June 13 and the winner will be notified by June 20. The FT will pay the cost of transportation within the UK and weekend accommodation for the winner and guardian. The publishers Bloomsbury will organise and pay for the activities in Scotland . Question
one : Who did Harry rescue from the lake?
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince won't quite take up all the shelf space when it hits bookstores July 16, but it might seem that way. With 10.8 million U.S. copies, it's the largest initial-print run in history. Secrecy is tight about the sixth and penultimate adventure in J.K. Rowling's series, but we do know that more characters will meet an untimely end.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be available from July 16 and covers Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
30th.May 2005 The interest in Harry Potter at Edinburgh Castle has been amazing and 75% of our visitors to our Edinburgh News Section are asking for details of the various Harry Potter competitions that are taking place around the world with lots of visitors from Australia and America, followed by our frinds in Canada, and a surprising amount of interest coming from countries in the Middle East -interesting to see the requests that have been arriving daily for Harry Potter in Arabic.
30th.May 2005 The next Harry Potter movie " Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix " will start filming in the spring of 2006, for release the following year in June, and amazing broomstick chase sequences along the River Thames are forecast with Harry zooming past famous London landmarks on the famous broomstick.
Wed.1st.May New York -- magic books. One lucky American library is going to be able to cast a spell on its readers by displaying the first American edition of ""Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the Half-Blood Prince," signed by J.K. Rowling herself. It's the top prize in a sweepstakes from Scholastic, Inc., the American publisher of the series about the boy wizard.
Scholastic officially announced the sweepstakes Wednesday morning 1 st..June. The Harry Potter contest is open to every public library in all 50 states, with mailed entries due by June 30. The winning library will be selected and notified on July 1, but will have to keep the news quiet for the next two weeks. On July 15, representatives from the library will be presented with the signed Harry Potter book in New York . They will have to wait until 12:01 a.m. on July 16, the official release date of the” Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” book, to take permanent possession of it.
Barbara Marcus, executive vice president at Scholastic, said giving the first signed copy of the sixth book in the Harry Potter series to a library seemed a natural fit, since the Harry Potter series has been a blockbuster in encouraging children to read.
"It just made sense to match up Harry Potter ... and to connect it to a place where children get the exposure to a lot of books," she said.
Tuesday 6 th. June 2005- I enjoyed speaking today to Carrie Anne Lunde from Edmonton Canada , Carrie is in Edinburgh on holiday, and she works in the Children’s Department of Coles in Edmonton Alberta .
